Tanner concentrates his guiding on the Chippewa Flowage, but when the fishing is tough is not afraid to head to new waters where the fish are biting, having fished a number of other lakes in the area his whole life, Tanner knows the waters extremely well! When guiding there are no set hours for your trip, we will fish when the fish are biting the best, whether that means splitting the day (fishing morning and evening), fishing during the day, or fishing all night long. Each day of guiding is an on the water seminar customized for you to learn as much as you possibly can so you can go out and catch more and bigger fish each time out on your own! Although we do work hard to catch big fish too!

Your day on the water will start with meeting at a location convenient to you, and you will ride with Tanner to where the fish are biting. You will fish from the front of Tanner’s roomy, 2007 Ranger 620VS, powered with a 250HP Mercury Pro XS. Tanner will teach you everything that you will need to know to make your day successful and the knowledge to fish in the same manner on your own. The hours of fishing are dictated by the fish, fishing when the fish are most active. A day of fishing with Tanner may include fishing a number of lakes in a day, and travel time does not count as part of your fishing time for the day. A full day is at least 8 hours on the water, Tanner does not “double book” days. So if the fish are still biting we will stay out! At the end of the day, you will leave the boat knowing more about fishing, to help make you a better angler. Come in the boat with an open mind and a willingness to learn new techniques that will teach you more about musky and walleye fishing and make you a better angler!

Spring Time Fishing

Starting the first Saturday in May our fishing season opens for everything but muskies. From then until Memorial Day weekend I focus mostly on walleye fishing, both eater size fish and trophies. I will teach you a variety of ways to catch these walleye’s on many different waters, from jigging to open water trolling. I will show you the best way to catch walleyes in the spring time. Numbers of fish are caught this time of the year and big fish. Also this time of the year there is great crappie fishing on the Chippewa flowage, perch fishing on LCO, giant pike fishing on the Chip and Round Lake, and bass fishing everywhere in the Hayward area! Come up in the spring and see all that it has to offer! At day’s end, I will mark a map if you would like and clean all of your fish and package them up for your freezer! We only keep the smaller males in the spring and release the larger females to help keep our population strong! Before the walleye fishing season opens, there is great panfishing to be had from ice out through may. Tanner guides in April and May for Panfish, including, crappie, bluegill, and perch. Contact Tanner for a fun pre-season trip!

St. Louis River

Tanner offers trips to the up and coming trophy musky fishery on the St. Louis River. This river is located in Duluth, MN/ Superior, WI and has a tremendous musky fishery, with a chance at a 50 incher on every cast. This river has a tremendous shallow water bite and a full day will usually consist of a number of different approaches to fishing including, casting and trolling the shallows. The musky fishing here is tremendous from opening day through the end of November, with the average size fish in the mid 40-inch range. Come and join Tanner for a fishing trip that you will never forget on this emerging fishery! Because of the St. Louis River being such a fantastic fishery a full day of guiding on this water is a full day!!!
